beautiful

beau•ty
lln.
xxx1.t.the combination of all the qualities of a person or thing
xxx1.t.that delight the senses and mind
xxx2. .a very attractive woman
xxx3. .an outstanding example of its kind
xxx4. .an advantageous feature

i've been thinking a lot today—about what beauty is and what society deems beautiful. is it flawless skin? is it youth? is it symmetry? i hope not. i hope beauty is exactly what the first or fourth definitions above state—and more—because if so, i stand a chance.

{notice that there is a small hair-like fiber in the bottom left of my macro photos. i purposefully left it in, even though i could have cloned it out in photoshop. i thought to leave it in would only support my thoughts.}

your question reminds me of a song lyric by Peter Searcy - "I wouldn't fix you if I could
But I won't break you anymore
Cause it's the cracks that make you good
It's the cracks that make you whole"

I think we can find beauty in even ugliness at times. But in people, I think it's inside and out that make us beautiful. for example - Angelina Jolie is considered beautiful but I do not see her as such due to past actions.

i agree, Char.

that is why i like the first definition the best. it does not speak to only physical qualities. just qualities in general. and it shows the age-old saying—beauty is in the eyes of the beholder—what delights the senses and mind, which is different for everyone.

someone is bound to find beauty in or on me if this is true. even with all my imperfections.

With out a doubt I say option 1 should be the only form of beauty. I say so and I right usually. =) JOkes.

I just think that more people would walk around with smiles if they realize we are all beauitful in are ways, our differences are what makes each other curious in the other person(initally that is)

I have a lil scar on my upper lip right under my nose, well I say little now but it is a decent size. I have had it since I was 3yrs old. Magzines touch up every photo they use so growing up I thought I was ugly with the scar, curly hair, glasses and freckles. No one else had it.

Now I see it as a survior wound, battle wound, beauitful and imperfect like the rest of me is.

If more people thought like you did(with the hair) then it would be easier to feel good about one's self.

Ps.

I think you are beautiful, your beauty pours out via your words and photos.

Reading your post, this morning, two associations come to my mind :
- Keats : "A thing of beauty is a joy for ever."

- Yeats (A Prayer for my Daughter):
"May she be granted beauty and yet not
Beauty to make a stranger's eye distraught,
Or hers before a looking-glass, for such,
Being made beautiful overmuch,
Consider beauty a sufficient end,
Lose natural kindness and maybe
The heart-revealing intimacy
That chooses right, and never find a friend.
(June 1919)
Definitely, yes ! You may be sure "someone is bound to find beauty in or on [you] if this is true. even with all [your] imperfections" !
And yes, B. is definitely right in saying "I think you are beautiful, your beauty pours out via your words and photos."
Bless you !
