synonymous : languid

my twin sister and i are going to start another little project/collaboration. but instead of having a separate blog for it {like our ethereal blog}, we are just going to post our side of the collaboration on our own blogs and link to the other half on the other's blog. {by the way, that's me on the left, and her on the right... taking our own self-portraits.}

our new project is called synophotography. here's how it will work. trading off turns, one of us will pick a word and post a photo that we feel goes with that word. then the other has to post a photo and a word that is synonymous. {the idea was angela's, by the way. but she told me to start and pick the first word.}

so my first word is languid. i love this word and other forms of it {like languish}. although it can have a negative connotation, it can also mean easy-going or gentle, like a languid breeze.

and here is my photo for the word languid.

languid
she told me not to pick a difficult word for my first one. i don't know if this will be easy or difficult for her to follow up with. but if it's not easy enough, she can just get me back on our next set.

i just realized, i won't be able to link to her synonymous post yet, because she won't be able to do hers until she sees this. so i will have to repost when hers is done with a link. or something like that. i guess we'll work out the details as we go.

{i also have a button for these "synophotography" posts in the sidebar and all the posts are tagged such.}

Interesting. Fun to have a collaborator. I checked out your sis' blog, very lovely work...similar to yours in many ways. Do you both have similar education/interests?

My father was a twin but fraternal, obviously, as she was a girl. Her daughter and I are close (I have no siblings) and her (my cousin's) husband calls us "twin cousins." She lives in Chicago, tough, and I live here so we don't see each other much.

Sorry, I mean to write, "she lives in Chicago, though," not "tough." That adds a whole new meaning that isn't really there :)

it can be tough living in chicago—depends where you live. :)

hey, that is where my sis lives—in chicago. if you ever go visit your cousing, you'll have to let us know. we can all get together!

Yet another great post idea! Do you sleep at all? Or were you both spoon-fed creativity?
I was fed chicken nuggets.
I think that's why I only post once a week and find that draining.
With that, love this word/photograph pairing. Such a great idea, really. One of my favorite words is "gossamer" and I think of it everytime I capture light through a window.

I was reading some of your older posts & noticed you did not have my address......does it not show up when I leave a comment if you click on my name?? In any case, its http://possumkitty.blogspot.com/. I'm looking forward to seeing yours & your sister's project!!

georgia b. said...

thanks, joyce. actually, that is your blog address. unless you have your e-mail set up as a link on your profile page, i won't be able to e-mail you in reply to the e-mail that i get with your comments. i can go to your blog, but because of the way you have your comment setting in the blog settings, i am not able to comment. that is how it is on any blogs that are set up that way. but it is a problem with my outdated software—not with your blog. so i hope you see this. it is the only way i can communicate back with you.

languid is one of those words that make me think of summer in the deep south and elizabeth taylor - very "cat on a hot tin roof" or something tennessee williams like "long hot summer". it summons funeral fans, summer dresses, heat but lushness too.

great summer shot

Ahh! "Languid" would scare me if I had to post about it, but you've done a great job. The photo is fabulous!

I love the idea of a collaborative blog. My daughter and I have been toying with starting one of our own, with her off in college on the east coast and me here in the midwest living life.

I know I posted a comment on this way back when you first put the post up, but I just wanted to say that I'm sooo happy you shoot power lines... We don't really have them in the places I take photos in NYC... I always love your shots capturing the lines!
