makeover

well, as you might have noticed {since you're here and you're reading just below it}, i changed my blog banner again. most of the leaves outside are gone -- even the ones on the ground. so i thought i would change my banner photo to something a little less seasonal and a little more neutral.

so... goodbye to the "walking in my favorite skirt in my favorite season" shot, and hello to my sister's lovely window.

i think i took this shot when i was at her house last summer. {i have posted it before as a black and white photo.} but you can't really tell what season it is outside, so i thought it would work. i like the quiet, grey, almost melancholy mood to this shot. it goes well with november.

but it appeals to me even more because i am fascinated by photos of light through windows. there is a feeling they evoke that soothes me, and i want to be more intentional about taking shots like this whenever i see it. i want to get creative with it and stretch the limits of my typical picture-taking with this subject. there are so many kinds of windows and so many ways the light can come through them. so i want to start experimenting with it more.

and i plan to... that's why i am creating another "fascinated by..." button. i'm going to make this sort of a project for myself {i kind of need something like that}. and i'll post them here when i get some under my belt. speaking of my sidebar buttons, i made over my sidebar, too. i liked a lot of my old buttons, but i wanted to make everything look a little more uniform and give my blog some visual continuity. so i spent a good deal of time working on that last sunday. it was so much fun!

anywho {or as my friend heather likes to spell it, anyhoo}... how 'bout you? do you have a light- through- window photo that you love? leave me a link. i'd love to see it! i could use some inspiration!

I love the new banner. Love the simplicity of it, the way you have the words along the side, the beauty of the black and white...

I love windows too... But all too often I only have the choice of my 3 windows to shoot. The early evening light is stunning through them though... Here are a few links of my recent window shots.

a few black and white window shots

and one I took with film - not too special...
a film window shot

the sunshine and birds in the window of my old apartment

Ok... So I shared 4 links!

Also, would you share some tips for how you created your buttons on the sidebar. For whatever reason, mine are never quite what I want them to be and I am loving yours!

xoxo, A

ps: I haven't officially gotten your package, but I did get a notice for a package. I'm heading to the post office this morning to pick it up! Can't wait!! :)

I noticed the banner right away:). Just lovely. Moody. Special light. I don't have a favorite photo, but love the idea of capturing the light in such a way. I like doors, too, as they indicate all sorts of messages. A door project sounds interesting...maybe...we'll see.

By the way...I'll miss your skirt and the leaves, but totally love your idea of the "seasonless" banner. I'm getting ready to change mine and have a couple of ideas going:). Have a glorious, light-filled day.

I like you banner too. You can't imagine how many pictures I've taken of that window and the one next to it since I've lived here. It is a perfect picture subject!

thanks, peejee! i agree. and yes, i can imagine how many you've taken. i know you. and i would do the same! i'm sure it looks different at every hour of the day. and i'm sure every one is beautiful. i've seen several of yours, so i know it! i'd never tire of it.

thanks for letting me "borrow" your window! can't wait to get over there and take more for "my sister's place", especially since i know you've done so much with the place since i was last there.

can't wait for your ornament exchange, too!

love you. miss you. let's do another ethereal post soon. and it's your turn to do a synophotography...

oh, sorry, alicia... i forgot to respond to you, too. {which i will also do via e-mail}.

the button things is pretty easy once you do one. at first i was not sure how to do it, but then i finally figured it out. i'll e-mail you with the details. probably won't be until i get home from work tonight.

yay!... i hope my package arrived in good condition. let me know.

I love your new banner. Something about "light" photos just transports me. Why is that? I don't know, but I love it. Such beauty. In the Bible, sometimes God is described as appearing to people as bright light. Maybe that's why light play is so breathtaking to me - it's a little reminder...

Love your new banner! I like window shots, too. I don't know if it's the light coming through them like you said or if it's just being able to see a hint of something through them. I did a series of them a few years ago on film but don't have many of them scanned. Here's one of them:
