i've hit the winter wall

it's official.  i've reached that inevitable point that i do every year right around this time.  usually, though, it's not for another few weeks.  but every year, some time in january, i get the winter blues.  snow and cold don't bother me for the first month or two {depending on when it starts}, and it's easy to enjoy with things like the holidays to look forward to.

but this year, i was feeling it a little early.  we have had a pretty rough winter so far weather-wise.  it's not that we have had any one storm that was so terrible, but we have had significant snowfalls, ice-storms, cold spells and weather-related road conditions what seems like every other day or even daily since before Thanksgiving.

i was using words like "magical" when referring to the snow.  and i really did feel that way.  but after last night {see what happened here}, i'm done.  i'm ready for the warm weather.  or at least a vacation—and that's not gonna happen, unfortunately.

last time i went on vacation and was somewhere warm during the cold chicago winter, this was my view the entire time.  i would give anything to go there again right now—with only the essentials.  one of my books, a chair, just my swimming suit and a towel, my flip-flops, a snack and a bottle of water.  that's it.  that's all i need.  i'm ready this very minute.  summer, sweet summer, how i miss you.

Hmm. I'm thinking similar thoughts today. Maybe we should come up with a post about the good things about Winter (because, as you pointed out, after Christmas, it loses its magic!).

Ditto to what you & Sherah both said! I'm going looney. Get us outta here winta!! And you're both right, after Christmas (well, New Years for me)... it loses the magical appeal. I like snow when it's not in my way, and I'm at the point in the season where I've gotten the blues too. Unfortunately our "vacation" this month is going to Indiana (through potentially fun snow storms in NE IN where inevitably it'll have vicious lake effect the night we're driving over there or back) to help my brother pack for his impending move (since I'm a pro-packer and love helping people do it... just hate doing it myself). Blue... blue... blue... go away snow... come back in another year. Maybe.

sorry honey - know what you should do? This weekend, make it a beach weekend inside. Have tropical cocktails, have seafood for dinner, and dance to regge music with great abandon. turn up the heat and wear a sarong, put on cocoa butter and give yourself a pedi.

I hear ya! I just got home from happy hour with an old girlfriend who is getting married in Hawaii in April. The idea of being on a beach in Maui....sigh.

So, she's trying to convince me to go but how could I possible afford this? OH, she wants me to take pictures in exchange for flight and hotel.

2&1/2 glasses of red wine later and I'm singing YES from the rooftops!

i would not have even needed two and a half glasses of wine to sing YES from the rooftops!

you are so lucky, girl! take me with you! i'll hold your camera bag for you while you shoot pics. you need someone to do that, right?

Well the bonus to the the tragic event with your car is that no one else was in the road. So then you did not have body damage to your car and you do not have to pay for someone else.

1. Winter makes it to where you do not have to mow every week

2. You get to have snowball fights with loved ones. Yes just like a kid DO IT! =)

3. Drink hot cocca and spike hot apple cider.

4. Curling up in front of a fireplace with a good book and watch the snow fall.

5.IT REALLY MAKES YOU APPREICATE SPRING AND SUMMER WHEN THEY COME

Anyways hopefully you just had snow in your tire well and the alignment is fine.

Trust me, I'm about as sick of it as you are. Another couple times shoveling our entire driveway and I might just scream.

And here I am, sitting through another sweltering hot Sydney summer, wishing for the cooler months! Admittedly, it doesn't snow in Sydney, and it's not quite as windy as Chicago, but I guess the grass is always greener :D

So sorry to hear about your car troubles and winter blues! We had a cold spell here in SF for a while but I was totally over it as well...the heating costs..boooooo

I'm not going to tell you what constitutes a "cold spell" to because I'm sure you'd find it hysterical!!
