a {not-so-rosey} rose

roses are red
violets are blue
unless they're made sepia
by me or by you

i was at my friend mary's house last night. i went to pick her up for a night out with the girls. tapas and sangrias––doesn't get much better than that.

anyway, mary always has the prettiest flowers in her yard. her roses were in bloom, although most of them were on their way out for the year, but still pretty. i took a few shots, but the color was not quite right. and the edges of the rose were starting to brown because it had been there for quite a while.

so i thought this was a good opportunity to play some more with textures and vintagization. {that's my new word.} i made it sepia, added texture and played around. i was recently on a blog that posts a lot of vintage photos. {it's called toadberry––you should check it out.} it inspired me to try something neat with this photo. i love how many of the old photos had that little date on the edge of the photo where the white frame is. so i recreated that on my photo to give it that extra old feel. kind of neat, hah?

finally, i just added some text with a script font to give it the appearance of an old photo that had had a caption written on it by someone's grandma or something. wah-lah!

this one is for you,
miss mary-mary-how-does-your-garden-grow!

super duper job vintagizing! you totally nailed every element. it even looks like my grandma's handwriting.

Lovely! I love the touch of adding the date on the pic...lots of my family's old pics have these dates...and you got just the right font for it too...did you do all this in Photoshop?...You inspire me to try more with PP...and "vintagization"...Love that word!

I always like the vintage actions until I try to add them to my own photos...then, I wish they had more color! Maybe I just haven't used the right photo yet.

vintagization hmmm... Can you take something thats already old and make it appear younger? I'll pay big bucks for that one, Georgia! Great image by the way.

I LOOOOVE the vintage style photo! You are inspiring me to try out some more vintage styles with my photos. The white border and date are great... Maybe in July, I'll play with making some vintage style photos... and I'm definitely putting that blog on my list of places to visit when I have more time! :)

love the edits...especially the handwriting. it reminds me of those black photo albums with the white corners to hold the pictures onto the page. beautiful

I like vintage too....and I like your new word. I look forward to see more of your blog, I followed you from Dagmar's blog. But I agree with Maisy, you have to have the right photo. Roses have always been around, so that's a great subject.

You've done a good job of this. I find sepia the most difficult conversion to do. It's really hard to get the colour and contrast right.

Mary's garden must be beautiful in full bloom.

How beautiful this is. You are really stepping out and challenging your creative side, and making me want to do the same. I am going to have to check out some of those ideas. Thank you!

Love, love, love this photo! Our roses are also on their way out and it hadn't occurred to me to "age" the photo along with the natural "aging" of the flower. :)

Nice job on the processing, Georgia! Vintage totaly works on this aged rose.
