notes

"music is not separated from the world; it can help us forget and understand ourselves simultaneously. in a spoken dialogue between two human beings, one waits until the other has finished what he has to say before replying or commenting on it. in music, two voices are in conversation simultaneously, each one expressing itself to the fullest while at the same time listening to the other. we see from this the possibility of learning not only about music but from music—a lifelong process."

i have been so aware of this dialogue between Calvin and myself, between God and myself lately. it has been so intricate that i have been able to distinguish melody from refrain from harmony from instrument...

after 24 years of marriage we still work on the listening part as it's soooo easy to not be good at that even with years of practice !

Sometimes i like looking at your photos first...for a minute or two...sometimes more...and i let them sink in...and because of who you are and what God has gifted you with...almost without fail, i understand the quotes before i have even read them.

i don't know what this gift of yours would be called...translator perhaps...of the languages of light, of melody, and of love...

whatever it is,

thank you.
