trueness

"i've never known a musician who regretted being one.
whatever deceptions life may have in store for you,
music itself is not going to let you down."

~virgil thompson

deafness

"oh, you men who consider or describe me as quarrelsome, peevish or misanthropic, how greatly you wrong me. you do not know the secret reason. forced to accept the prospect of a permanent infirmity, i soon had to cut myself off and live in solitude. for me there can be no relaxation in human society, conversations and mutual confidences. i must live like an outcast. in company i am overcome by acute anxiety, for fear i am in danger of revealing my condition. what a humiliation when someone standing beside me heard a flute from afar while i heard nothing! such experiences have brought me close to despair and i came near to ending my own life—only my art held me back, as it seemed to me impossible to leave this world until i have produced everything i feel it has been granted to me to achieve. i go toward death joyfully; would it not release me from a condition of endless suffering?"
~beethoven

mine aren't antique,
but they're still glass and they're green,
and they are so pretty in my dining room window
when the sun shines through them.
{i had to laugh when i saw your post about green glass bottles—
just one more thing.}

driving home from nature day 2008

nature day is something my friend, mary, started many years ago. she loves nature more than anyone i know. because she loves it so much, she started a get-together every fall where anyone who wanted to join her would go to the spot of her choosing--usually a forest preserve--and walk around to enjoy and take in the beauty of God's earth.

i have gone several times, but this year was the first time in several years. it has grown to a crowd of over 50, and it started out with just a few.

when we were driving back home from nature day this year, it was a gorgeous day, and i wanted to continue my "taking it all in". so i made my husband stop along the side of the road a couple of times so i could take more pictures. some were taken while driving or at stop lights, too. there were just such neat clouds as we drove and the sky was the most beautiful shade of fall blue, that i had to capture it on camera.

fall is my favorite season, if you couldn't tell.

maybe next year, i will have a much nicer camera than just my dinky little canon, with which i can take much better pictures.
